Taking on personal projects is always a great challenge for a brand, in this case VICAL has taken on the interior renovation of a penthouse located on the seafront of the city of Alicante.

The company was given a free hand to undertake the make-over the with a single condition, it had to stand out. This space, in a dream location, has been transformed in a way that will make it the star of the show whenever family and friends get together here. The penthouse is located in a new building, barely 8 years old, with an architectural structure of steel, glass and concrete that had deteriorated significantly, making this a particular renovation challenge.

The interior designer overseeing this project, Antonio García of Dekorasihome, has taken New York lofts as his main inspiration, with their high ceilings and wall-to-wall windows and bohemian feel. Here, taking into account the size of the space, the idea has been to play with perspective and use large pieces of furniture. Such large rooms cry out for furniture that is similar in scale, so as not to be dwarfed by the vastness of the space.

Voluminous velvet sofas, large lamps and wallpaper that seems almost to wrap around the walls like a dress, all help to occupy the space.

Uniqueness has been one of the main premises of the design of this loft and one of the ways that the interior designer achieves this is by moving completely away from the Nordic aesthetic that predominates in so many homes and going to the opposite extreme. While many homes opt for light furniture and white doors, here the doors are jet black in all the rooms.

The kitchen, together with the terrace, are two of the most distinctive spaces in this penthouse, at a height of three meters and giving on to the living room. In the kitchen, wood is used alongside the predominantly black aesthetic to provide a rustic touch in contrast to the unstintingly modern and chic style of the rest of the home. The terrace is expressly designed for hanging out and meeting up with friends, with two sunbeds and a jacuzzi, all overlooking the sea.

One of the features of this penthouse is the master bedroom, designed along the lines of a boutique hotel. It is striking, especially the wall colour, and conveys immediately that this is a space for switching off from the world. A similar effect, in tune with that sense of being one-of-a-kind that this loft is all about, is achieved in the guest bathroom, where the main wall has a vertical garden that it is hard to peel your eyes away from.

All in all, every room is a feast for the senses laid on by VICAL, against a backdrop of colours and textures that truly elevate this space to the category of out-and-out luxury.
